Roberto Burle Marx (Sao Paulo, August 4th, 1909 – Rio de janeiro, June 4th, 1994) was that today is calling contemporary creator: painter, print maker, ecologist, naturalist, artist, musician… But the side that made him world-famous is that of modernist landscape architect.
Born from upper class family in Brazil, received theoretical training at Germany, while his father emigrates there, but without leaving to learn about Brazil’s native flora. His work has a sense of timelessness and perfection and it extends throughout the world: Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile, France, South Africa, Washington D.D. and Los Angeles.
The High Exhibition Gallery of Chaillot Palace offers a temporal exhibition called “La permanence de l’Instable”, a retrospective of all aspects of their work: from the large urban scale to a detailed work in private gardens.
